Will E-Readers Kill the Book?

There is much speculation about the effect the proliferation of neat-o gadgetry will have on old-fashioned paper books. The book industry has always been a dinosaur, even before the current perceived threat of extinction came into view. The threat has always been there; e-books are simply the most recent incarnation.

Please take a moment and peruse this transcript of On the Media in which Brooke Gladstone examines a book publishing business that “is teetering on the brink of ruin, hurtling toward the precipice, awash and adrift in the sea of books, in other words, more or less the same as it ever was.”

Heavy stuff for a bibliophile. But keep in mind, there was a point in time when the neat-o Segway was predicted to replace not only the bicycle but also the automobile.
