This stop-motion video of the process of designing the cover for Gail Carriger‘s forthcoming novel Blameless is hypnotic, and the accompanying interview with the designer, Lauren Panepinto, is fascinating. Despite having next to no artistic ability ourselves, we kind of wish this were our job.
It’s also always interesting to see the radically different designs people come up with for the same book, as The Millions’ comparison of a bunch of recent U.S. and U.K. releases proves. (We agree with all of their picks, except when it comes to Wells Tower’s Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned—as far as we’re concerned, those damn colonials have that one sewn up.) Wouldn’t it be awesome if a video similar to the one above were done about the design process for this type of book—a work of stand-alone literary fiction?
